Application Process

Speculative applications

Unfortunately, we are not currently matching speculative applications to vacancies which may become available at some future date. Please submit employment applications only in response to advertised vacancies. Any others we receive will be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Short-listing
Following the specified closing date, applications are sent to the relevant department for short-listing. All candidates are assessed against the criteria contained in the ‘Person Specification’ included in the Job Pack. Those candidates who best meet the criteria are invited to interview. This is usually completed within one to two weeks of the closing date.

Selection Interview
The selection process will depend on the type of vacancy for which you have applied.

All vacancies will involve a panel interview and, if appropriate, some other form of assessment (a presentation or practical test relevant to the post).

Reference Requests
The number of references required will depend on the post for which you are applying. A general guide is:

External applicants – 2 referees

References will be checked as satisfactory by the Human Resources Department.

Please ensure you have received permission from referees before adding their details to your form.

Offer of Employment
Human Resources will contact preferred candidates and an offer, conditional upon medical clearance and suitable references, will be made.

Where specified in the other ‘Particulars’, the appointment will be conditional upon the obtaining of a satisfactory Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau.

Where the preferred candidate is a national of a country outside the European Economic Area, and is not married to such a person, a Work Permit will usually be required. Again, the appointment will be conditional upon this.

All of the information that you require together with the offer letter and contract will be sent to you.

Expenses
If you wish to claim expenses, please post your form, together with your receipts, to the Human Resources Department. Once approved the expenses claim will be forwarded to Finance Department for payment

Equal Opportunities Monitoring
The Authority’ monitors the recruitment process to ensure that the equal opportunity policy is being applied effectively.

Please complete the Recruitment Monitoring section of the application form. This information is confidential and it is not available to the recruiting panel. The information you provide is used for monitoring purposes to ensure that we are acting fairly when we employ people.

If you have a disability which prevents you from meeting any of the criteria, tell us about this in your application. Please tell us what we could do to help you meet the criteria. If you have a disability we will offer you an interview as long as you meet the essential requirements of the job.

The Disability Discrimination Act defines “disability” as follows:

“A physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term effect on the person’s ability to carry out normal day-to day activities.”
