Penderyn Primary School proudly became a ‘Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Ambassador School’ in a celebratory assembly. The National Park Authority awarded the school with a large map of the Park and each child received an ‘Ambassador’ badge.
The ‘National Park Ambassador School’ scheme is run by the Authority’s Education Service and focuses on providing outdoor learning opportunities; encouraging children to develop confidence and skills in the outdoors at an early age. The scheme supports the curriculum through literacy and numeracy skills, supporting improved attainment whilst connecting learners and their teachers with the Bannau Brycheiniog. The National Park is a region that is protected and conserved, but also one that is used for work, learning, recreation and by communities. This partnership between local schools and the Park provides children with knowledge and understanding of their local environment and inspires them to engage with the outdoors and the special place that is the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.
Mr. Wood, Head Teacher at the School said; “Working with Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority allows the children to explore and learn about and within the natural environment. It is something that the children enjoy and promotes healthy living for their future.”
Mel Doel, Chairman of the National Park Authority added; “It’s fundamental for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority to inspire future generations. Working with local schools, providing relevant courses and appealing to the children allows us to positively influence their relationship with the Park. I would like to congratulate all the children at Penderyn Primary School on becoming National Park Ambassadors”.
