Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon is the latest venue to host Diamond People, a photographic exhibition that celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. Opening today, the exhibition is on show in the theatre’s Andrew Lamont Gallery until 20th November.
Diamond People features 21 portraits of just some of the people who have made a difference in the Bannau Brycheiniog. The National Park Authority commissioned local photographer Billie Charity to take the photos which are all set in the landscape of the Bannau Brycheiniog. Billie ventured to locations including down into caves and up onto mountains and viewers will be able to spot many familiar landscapes from all over the National Park.
Amongst those photographed are the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team on a training exercise in the Central Beacons, and Elizabeth Daniel, owner of Bannau Brycheiniog Holiday Cottages. Captured are the Nepalese Community Footpath Group, working on the Gurkha Path, a popular footpath in Brecon that they have restored and now maintain. National Trust Rangers who look after the central Beacons, including the well-known peak of Pen y Fan can be seen taking a break on a stone wall with a breath taking view. Rob Davies MBE, a Gold Medallist British Paralympic table tennis player, is photographed in the town of Talgarth where he grew up and conservation grazier Helen Roderick is pictured with one of the highland cattle her and her husband are farming on the Allt, high up in the Usk Valley.
Chairman of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority, Mel Doel, said;
“Diamond People has been touring the Park throughout the summer, giving many people the chance to view the beautiful images and find out more about the stories behind the pictures. The exhibition celebrates the wide variation of people and businesses that are connected to the Bannau Brycheiniog, all contributing to the National Park in some way, making it the very special place it is today.”
Punch Maughan, Visual Arts Coordinator at Theatr Brycheiniog, commented:
“We are delighted to be hosting Diamond People in our Andrew Lamont Gallery. Theatr Brycheiniog is extremely fortunate to be situated in the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog; the incredible landscape, heritage and economy of the Park is integral to everything we do here, and it therefore feels entirely appropriate that we can host this photographic exhibition as a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the National Park. We host a range of varied exhibitions by local and regional artists throughout the year, and we are thrilled to offer our visitors the opportunity to find out more about the people who contribute to the Park.”
