Whatever the time of year, Craig–y–nos Country Park is one of most beautiful spots in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park renowned for relaxing and unwinding. Over the years it has played host to some lovely events and now it has added a very successful classic and vintage car show to its list.
The sun glinted off more than 80 cars laid out in front of the Adelina Patti Pavilion at the first classic car show at Craig-y-nos country Park. The event saw hundreds of people turn out to admire the vintage motors in attendance many brought along by local groups of car enthusiasts, including a truly stunning vintage XK Jaguar and an eye catching 1960 pink Cadillac.
The show was free for the public to enter, and was enthusiastically supported by the Glamorgan Classic Car Club, closely followed into the field by the Skewen Motor Club, the Classic Vehicle Enthusiasts Club, along with the Swansea MG Enthusiasts and the South Wales Mini Club.
Entry to the show was open to classic and vintage cars, along with motorcycles, scooters and ex-military vehicles and every imaginable form of transport from bygone days. Over 80 classic and modern cars turned out for the event arriving in a convoy of five military jeeps, classic Jaguars, a Lotus, Morris Minors, Minis, MGs and many more stunning vehicles.
The event had a lovely, family-friendly atmosphere, and the car owners and visitors to the event were treated to musical delights from the wonderful 25 strong Briton Ferry Silver Band and the David Vaughan-Lewis Singers – a group of locally trained young singers who performed show tunes and classical arias in honour of the Country Park’s heritage as the former home of renowned Victorian opera diva Adelina Patti.
The day was judged a great success by everyone and the organisers hope to repeat the experience for next year.
Ian Penn, Estate Warden for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority at Craig-y-nos Country Park commented: “This is our first classic car show at the Country Park and we think it’s been a fantastic success. It’s been such a treat to see an eclectic mix of cars and other vehicles. One of the members of the Skewen Motor Club even brought his newly restored car for its very first outing. The venue and the weather were utterly perfect and we certainly hope this will be the first of many successful car shows for Craig-y-nos Country Park. Events like this are only possible because of the amazing contribution of the volunteers who support the Country Park all year round and who stewarded the event for us, I am so grateful to them for their support. ”
Mrs Julie James, Member for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority said: “Craig-y-nos Country Park is a really popular beauty spot in the Bannau Brycheiniog. After the success of the Brecon and Radnor Express sponsored car show in August up at the Visitor Centre near Libanus we decided to run one at Craig-y-nos Country Park to see if there was an equally strong appetite there. Needless to say we have been delighted with the turnout. I really want to thank the dedication of the warden, staff and volunteers who made this event such a great success.
