Get your walking boots on in Crickhowell

Walkers keen to explore the Crickhowell area can now find out all they need to know to get going thanks to the installation of two new walking panels aimed at helping visitors explore the town and discover some new walks and enjoy some old favourites too.

Funded by Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority’s Rural Alliances project,  the Crickhowell Walkers are Welcome group, have installed two information panels located in the Bullpit Meadow by the River Usk and outside the CRiC building to highlight the wonderful walking opportunities around Crickhowell.  As part of the project, a new town map was commissioned which is featured in a new Crickhowell town guide called ‘Crickhowell – unique in any light’ – a useful leaflet that helps orientate visitors from the car park into the town so they can discover the unique shopping experience Crickhowell offers.

Crickhowell now offers a unique walking experience for visitors of all ages and abilities and the installation of the panels also coincides with the second ‘Cracking Walks around Crickhowell’ publication.  There are two publications in the series – an easy to moderate walk guide which was launched last year and the energetic to strenuous guide which was launched last month.  It is hoped that the new walking panels will promote all the shopping and walking and encourage visitors to use them when they arrive in the town.   All the guides feature stunning images and maps of the area, along with descriptions of the route, distances, points of interest and things to spot along the way.

Jan Morgan from CRiC said: “Crickhowell Walking Festival really has put us on the map as a walking destination, and these new installations and publications mean that visitors can enjoy the walking opportunities we have to offer outside of the festival.  The panels and books are user friendly and provide all the information needed for an interesting walk in the area.”

Carol Williams, Tourism Growth Officer for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority said:  “I can’t think of a better way to explore Crickhowell.  The popularity of these walking books is spreading and we have been delighted to work with the Crickhowell Walkers are Welcome group to come up with the …… carefully planned routes which encapsulate Crickhowell’s unique character, whilst giving walkers the opportunity to get out there and drink in the marvellous views.”

Elsa Cleminson from Walkers are Welcome said:  “The majority of our visitors are walkers and they are always looking for new routes and opportunities to explore.  As a group we discussed what was needed in the area, and came up with the ideas of the panels and accompanying books which emphasis the very best of what we have to offer.  What’s great is that people seem to really love the hand-in-hand approach between the panels and the books – since the installation of the panels the sales of the books have increased tenfold.”
