The consultation which began in June and included an open day exhibition for the public in July is being coordinated by Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority and will continue until 6 September 2013.
The purpose of the consultation is to look at the characteristics and qualities that define Hay on Wye and to ensure that those attributes are maintained and where necessary improved.
National Park Authority Member Champion for Heritage, Martin Buckle said, “Hay on Wye is a beautiful area but what sets it apart from other locations is its distinct character. A look at the 1887 Tithe map alongside more contemporary maps of Hay on Wye shows a street pattern that has changed very little. This is clearly testament to the determination of the people of Hay, past and present, to preserve the town’s rich cultural heritage and appeal. The National Park Authority sees itself very much as custodians of that heritage and takes seriously the responsibility associated with this privileged position.”
He added, “We want to encourage as a many people as possible to share their views with us as part of this consultation. The outcome of the consultation impacts on important issues such as conservation and planning and it is vital that the people affected by these decisions – the residents of Hay on Wye – are at the heart of the decision making process.”
