Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority encourages visitors to a green Travel Challenge

With so many different ways of getting around the National Park – walking, cycling, catching a bus, mountain biking, horse riding, paddling a canoe, taking a trip on the Brecon Mountain Railway or even jumping on a canal boat – timing couldn’t be more perfect to launch the new Travel Challenge competition which is set to kick off on the 1st May and will run until the end of September.  
The Travel Challenge invites visitors and even residents to think about how they travel in the Bannau Brycheiniog and gives them ideas about how to try and give their car a well earned break during their time in the National Park.   There will be prize draws at the end of each month (from May until September) and all people have to do is either travel to the National Park by public transport or try travelling without their car during their stay.  All entries to the competition must be accompanied by proof of travel, in the form of a receipt, ticket or photograph and travel must take place between the 1st May and the 30th September 2011.  Entries can be made online www.travelbreconbeacons.info or via the Travel Challenge competition leaflet which comes out on the 1st May.
All entries will be in the running for a grand prize draw offering a walking or cycling holiday break in the Bannau Brycheiniog staying at the Bridge Cafe in Brecon, with a guided walk or cycle ride especially designed for the winners from Drover Holidays. 
Annie Lawrie, Visitor Transport Officer for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority said: “Many of our visitors into the National Park are starting to become very eco-conscious about the footprint they leave here and we are trying to help them that little bit further by encouraging them to give  their car a break when they get here.  There is so much excellent work going on in the National Park exploring innovative ways to travel, like the new B-Bugs, Canal Food Trails and of course there’s always the Beacons Bus which starts again this year on the 29th May.  All this offers people plenty of choice on how to get from A to B easily and sustainably – all whilst taking in the magnificent views of the Park.”

A leaflet series titled ‘Car Free Days Out’ along with the new Travel Challenge leaflet and entry form will also be available from all Visitor Information Centres in the National Park (Brecon, Abergavenny, Llandovery, Hay on Wye and Pontneddfechan) – all designed to help visitors plan their days out using local transport.
