Funded by Job Centre Plus and in partnership with Powys County Council, Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority has started the first phase of its recruitment with18 temporary jobs up for grabs across the Park – including 8 Assistant Warden positions, office based and catering vacancies available.
Open to all ages, the new jobs are available for those people who’ve been on Jobseekers Allowance for over 6 months and all posts are salaried at Grade 1 £12145 p.a. pro rata for 25hrs a week for a 6 month period only.
Mrs Mary Taylor, Chairman for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority said: “I am delighted to hear that our National Park Authority is offering these jobs that will aim to get people out of unemployment during these difficult financial times. This is a really positive opportunity that we hope people will take advantage of. Wardens’ positions, in particular, are usually a very difficult field to break into so those who are successful will be able to learn new skills and hopefully continue a career in the field of environmental conservation.”
Sam Ridge, an Eastern Area Warden for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority who gained full time work with the National Park Authority on a similar scheme said: “I completed a course of a similar nature a few years ago, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys protecting the environment and working in the outdoors. The scheme that I completed gave me the relevant experience and understanding of countryside conservation which eventually enabled me to become full-time warden for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority.
“Courses like this give people the confidence to achieve their potential and ultimately work in one of the most rewarding positions that environmental conservation has to offer. Of course, it’s outdoors so you really have to enjoy the Welsh weather and getting your hands dirty – having a good sense of humour will always come in handy too.”
