This toolkit gives advice on planning, organising and running walking festivals. It aims to help if you are setting up a festival for the first time, or if you want to improve an existing festival. The toolkit is organised into sections; each one has:
- An introduction
- Information for new and existing festivals
- Narrative (with illustrations as appropriate)
- Checklists
- Case study examples
- Top tips boxes
- Sources of further information
Each festival is different, so you will want to develop your own way of doing things. However, we’ve included different approaches taken by other festivals that might be helpful. We’ve also included some checklists, which might be useful and ‘top tips’ – reminders and things you might not have thought of!
You can read the whole toolkit straight through, or go straight to the topic you are interested in. The sections are:
- Why do you want to start a walking festival?
- What might your festival look like?
- Starting a walking festival
- Thinking about planning
- Things to think about during the festival
- After the festival
We hope to update the toolkit as festival organisers discover new ways of working, so please send us information on your own experience.
